Are we communicating more and worse? The digital compass for HORECA distributors

In recent years the HORECA distribution sector has felt strong pressure to "go digital". In an attempt to modernise their image and not fall behind, many distributors fall into the trap of opening profiles on every possible network and firing off messages in all directions without a clear strategy. However, it is worth pausing to reflect: in this eagerness to be everywhere, are we really improving our communication with customers, or are we just making more noise?

For a B2B business model, dispersion is the biggest enemy of good communication. It is not about being everywhere in the hope of being seen, but about being in the right places, with the right message and at the right frequency. Trying to copy the strategies of brands that target the end consumer (B2C) usually leads to frustration, wasted time and an inconsistent image.

Below we set out a clear, practical pattern: an optimised "digital diet" that can serve as a basis for any distributor in the sector who wants to come across as professional and approachable without going mad in the process.

The everyday trident (B2B)

For day-to-day operations and building solid business relationships, less is more. An agile approach rests on three pillars:

  • WhatsApp (Business): The undisputed king of immediacy in HORECA. Ideal for resolving incidents, taking quick orders and dealing directly with bar and restaurant owners. It should be used professionally, respecting working hours and avoiding mass spam.
  • Email marketing: The perfect tool for important communications. Monthly offers, new catalogues, price changes or product launches. It lets you track open rates and keeps customers informed without being intrusive.
  • LinkedIn: The natural space for corporate networking. This is where a distributor builds authority, connects with manufacturers, attracts talent and shows off the strength of its logistics or its strategic alliances.

The static shop window (your brand image)

Your passive presence is just as important as your active one. When a potential customer looks for references, what they find must convey absolute trust.

  • Google Business Profile: An optimised listing is non-negotiable. It is the digital business card that guarantees local visibility, displays real reviews and provides contact details and location at a glance. It is pure brand positioning at zero cost.
  • A simple but high-quality website: You do not need a labyrinthine portal. A clean, fast, corporate website that clearly explains who you are, which areas you cover and which portfolio you handle is enough. The key here is not the number of pages, but excellence in design and usability.
  • The blog (the consistency rule): A blog is an excellent tool for educating customers (industry trends, optimising cost breakdowns, new products), but it comes with a strict rule: only have one if you can commit to publishing at least twice a month. An abandoned blog whose latest post is two years old damages your brand image far more than not having one at all.

Success in B2B communication within the HORECA channel does not lie in making constant noise, but in being the reliable partner that bar and restaurant owners need. Fine-tuning these channels will allow you to project exactly that image.
