Social media for distributors: a helpful presence for your clients

In the HORECA sector, a distributor does not need to look like a consumer brand. It is not about making viral videos or racking up likes, but about having a clear, useful and professional presence that builds trust and makes it easy for clients to get in touch.

Here we explain how you should be present on social media… without wasting your time.

✅ 1. Choose your networks carefully: less is more

You do not need to be everywhere. These are the ones that can really add value:

  • LinkedIn: Ideal for showcasing agreements with brands, announcing service improvements and sharing achievements or industry news. Professional, without the noise.
  • WhatsApp Business: Essential. It is not a social network as such, but it is your best direct channel with bars, restaurants and shops.
  • Instagram or Facebook: Only useful if you sell to end consumers or if some of your products lend themselves to visuals (gourmet food, wines, cocktails…).

👉 Don't try to compete with Coca-Cola. That is not what your client is looking for.

✅ 2. Your goal is not to sell, but to build trust

Your client already knows you or can find you. What they expect when they see you on social media is confirmation that you are active, that you are serious and that they can trust you with their business.

Content that works:

  • 📦 Real cases: "This restaurant cut its costs by switching to this product."
  • 📌 Practical news: opening hours, logistics changes, new products with clear value.
  • 📈 Professional opinion: reactions to industry trends or relevant news.

✅ 3. You don't need a content calendar

Posting once or twice a week is enough. On social media, less but better is best. What matters is that what you share:

  • Is real.
  • Offers something useful.
  • Confirms that your company is active and constantly improving.

✅ 4. Not everything has to be public

Often the most effective approach is to use WhatsApp groups or personalised messages to your clients to send them:

  • Product news.
  • Exclusive promotions.
  • Changes that affect them directly.

👉 Don't obsess over visibility. Usefulness is your best marketing.

✅ 5. Avoid common mistakes

❌ Posting only photos of pallets or boxes with no context.
❌ Repeating generic messages such as "we work with passion".
❌ Using social media as a catalogue, without explaining benefits or use cases.

🔚 In short:

If you want social media to help you, make it useful for your clients, not for yourself. And if you are not sure how to do that… it is better to have a small presence that is done well.
